Williams, Virginia Ann
Halstead Independent
Virginia Ann Barnett Williams was born Dec. 4, 1834 near Salem, Alabama and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Dalton, Sept 2, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, 28 days.
She married William Lafayette Williams Dec. 4, 1848 and spent a happy married life of 61 years before her husband preceded her to his heavenly home. To this union, ten children were born, four of whom, Henry Williams of Goddard, Ks., A. B. Williams and Mrs. Inez Dalton of Halstead and Mrs. Vida McDonald of Rialto, Calif. remain to mourn her loss. Besides her own family, she raised two grandchildren, Roy Hall of Halstead and Earl Hall of Iowa Park, Texas, who with 30 grandchildren and 78 great-grandchildren also mourn her death.
With her husband she moved to Kansas in 1876 and located on the old homestead 7 miles southwest of Halstead. She united with the Baptist Church in Alabama in 1852 and later in Kansas with the Bethany Baptist Church where she is remembered as having been an earnest active member for many years. She was a faithful wife and loving mother, with a race well run in her last months of suffering often longed to go and be at rest.
Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dalton, in Halstead,and burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
