Thomas Benton VanHorn died at his home northwest of Halstead April 1905 after an illness of several years, having been afflicted with rheumatism and kidney trouble. The past year he has been practically helpless and death came to him as a great relief.
Thomas Benton VanHorn was born in Warren County, Ohio in 1836 and had he lived until next monday, would have been sixty nine years of age. He spent two years in the Union army and later located in Alabama where he was married to Ara Ann Elizabeth "Kitty" Williams, who with three sons and five daughters survive him.
Coming to Halstead thirty years ago, he established the first dray in town and did the business with a team of oxen as the motive power. This city and vicinity has since been his home.
Funeral services will be held from the late home this afternoonn at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Dye. Burial will be in the Halstead Cemetery.
