Former Sheriff Dies in Topeka Hospital

Frank E. Darney, 79, of Newton died Sunday afternoon in a Topeka Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Darney was born at Indianopolis, Kansas and had resided in Newton for 30 years. He was married June 3, 1920 to Maude VanHorn.

Mr. Darney served two terms as sheriff, from 1931 to 1935 and had served in other law enforcement work.

He is survived by his widow, four daughters, one son and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 3 pm at Moody's Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
