Pierce, John W.

Halstead Independent

John W. Pierce died at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Williams on Chestnut street at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning, after an illness extending over a period of about six years. The medical term for his ailment is Multiple Sclerosis, which is an affection of the brain and spinal cord. He had been taken to the Williams home while their hoouse was being moved in from the farm. For several years, the best of medical attendants had pronounced his case hopeless and the end came as no great surprise.

John W. Pierce was born in Alabama, Dec. 5, 1859 and came to Halstead in the fall of 1875. For many years he was engaged in business and retired about six years ago on account of failing health. He received treatment from the best physicians of the county, but all efforts proved fruitless and all that could be done was to wait for his vitality to slowly wear itself out. During his business career in our city he was well and favorably known by every person in this part of the county.

He was married to Miss Vida Williams on April 3, 1892, who with a father, five brothers and a sister are left to mourn his loss.

The funeral will be held from the Methodist church today, (Thursday) at 2 pm and interment will be made in the city Cemetery.
