Lillie Vanhorn

Lillie Stever VanHorn, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. L. J. Stever was born at Moundridge, Kansas on September 2, 1878 and departed this life at the Bethel Hospital at Newton on July 16, 1961 after a brief illness at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 14 days.

She was united in marriage to Andrew J. VanHorn at Halstead on November 22, 1898 and to this union two daughters and five sons were born. Her daughter, Viola Ethel preceded her in death as well as her husband, A. J. VanHorn who died on October 14, 1956.

She is survived by her daughter, Maudie Darney, Newton and five sons; Orville J., San Antonio, Texas; Clive B. of Sacremento, Calif.; E. Maurice of Wichita; Merle Richard of San Bernardino, Calif; and Earl of San Angelo, Texas; brothers, Fred Stever of Ulysses, Delbert Stever of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters Emma Greenup of Valley Center; Mrs. Stella Hand, Halstead and Mrs. Daisy Congdon of Sedgwick; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. VanHorn was a faithful member of the Halstead Methodist church, uniting with the same on June 17, 1923.

Memorial services were held Wednesday June 19 at First Methocdist Church with burial in Halstead Cemetery.
