Joe C. Purcell, 82, died March 12, 2004 at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 17. 1923 at Burrton, son of Harry L. and Anna E. Marr Purcell. A longtime Hutchinson resident he was raised in Higgins and Canadian, Texas. He graduated Canadian, Texas High School and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. He was an auditor and controller for the former C. R. Rayl Implement Co., Consolidated Rebuilders Inc., C. R. Rock Co, and he retired from Lindberg and Vogel Chartered, all of Hutchinson.
He belonged to First Christian Church, Hutchinson. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. On September 24, 1848 he married Jayne M. Koepke at Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors: son, Tony, Dennison, Texas; daughter, Marji Purcell Gates, Palatine, Ill; sister, Clara M. Lengle, New Mexico; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil M. Purcell, his father, Harry, his mother, Anna Purcell Sullivan and stepfather, Robert Sullivan.
Private graveside service with military graveside rites by the Fort Riley Honor Guard will be a Burrton Cemetery.
