Neil Albert Matlack, 86, went to be withh his Heavenly Father on Dec. 29, 2003 at Hospsice House, Hutchinson. He was born June 29, 1917 at Burrton, the son of Karl Linford and Nellie May Carmichael Matlack. A lifetime Burrton resident, he was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the French Croix de Guerre, the Bronze Service Star and numerous other service awards. He belonged to Burrton United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Disabled American Vets, he held most church offices and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award of Boy Scouts of America.
On Oct. 3l, 1937 he married Cleo Fay Bottoms. She died May 7, 2000. Survivors include; a son, Jack Douglas, Austin, Texas; two daughters, Carol Sue Cristensen, McPherson and Patricia Ann Blaine, Oklahoma City; brother Virgil Matlack, Denver, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Harley and Wayne.
Funeral was Friday at Burrton United Methodist Church with burial in the Burrton Cemetery.
