Mrs. Lottie Evaline (Evans) Norris, was born in Bellevue, Michigan the daughter of Captain Benjamin and Arilla Evans. She departed this life on Thursday afternoon March 21, 1940 at her home at 1011 Main street, Newton Kansas.

After the death of her mother in Bellevue, Michigan, she as a small child came with her family to McPherson county, Kansas. Here she remained until she reached young womanhood, and was married to David W. Norris. After a few years Mr. and Mrs. Norris moved to Rockaway, N. J., the former home of her husband, where it was hoped Mrs. Norris health would be benefited. After three years, her health was regained, and and it was while they were still residing there that their son, Alex Norris, well known citizen of Newton was born. They returned to McPherson to remain for approximately seven years, when they came to Newton, which has been the family home for more than forty years.

Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death as did her husband who passed away in September, 1913. She leaves her son Alex and his wife, a grandson John Norris, a brother Eli Evans of Engles, Kansas.

Mrs. Norris was a woman of wide civic interests and gave generously of her time and talents to her church, her clubs, and various civic groups in which she took an active interest. She was faithful member of the Presbyterian church, of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Union Veterans, Ladies of the Maccabees, and the Themian club.

Her sudden death, while peaceful and without suffering, came without warning and was a great shock to the immediate family and her many friends, yet fortunately Mrs. Alex Norris was with her the last ten minutes before her passing.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 25. A short prayer service was held at the family home for the immediate family which was followed by funeral services at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church with her pastor F. E. Black officiating. The ladies of the D. A. R., D. U. V. and Maccabees attended in groups at the mausoleum. Entombment was made in the family crypts in Greenwood Abbey.
