Parkhurst, Aaron
Aaron was the son of Charles and Ruth Hoagland Parkhurst and was 90 years 2 months and 4 days old at the time of his death.
In August of 1861 he enlisted in the 8th Illinois Cavalry, Co. B. where he served for three years and was honorably discharged Sept. 28, 1864. After the war he spent a number of years in Pennsylvania with his grandparents, later coming to Iowa to join his parents.
In 1873 he came to Kansas where he took a homestead in Highland township in Harvey county. He returned to Iowa in the spring of 1874 and on August 2, 1874 he was married to Sarah A. Green at Fairbank, Iowa. They came immediately to their new home in harvey county, where they resided for 35 years. There were three children born, Howard L., Arthur G. and Floyd V. In October 1909 they moved to Newton at 310 East 8th St., where they lived until May 18, 1932 when death claimed his wife Sarah who had been his wife for almost 58 years. His son Arthur and his family moved into the family home and cared for his father until his death in 1933.
Services at the entombment were under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge of which he had beena member for 61 years. A salute was fired and taps were sounded by the squad from the Veterans of Forgein Wars at the close of the service, and the flag enshrouded casket bearing the form of this much beloved comrade, was entombed in Greenwood Abbey by the side of his wife.
