Hege, Mary
Halstead Independent
Mary Hege was the daughter of Daniel and Christina Lichti Hege and was born January 16, 1863 at Westpoint, Iowa. Surviving her is one sister, Miss Christina Hege of Newton, Rural Route; and nephews and nieces.
Mary Hege was a teacher and taught in the Kansas Schools and on Government Indian Reservations for more than forty years. For the last fifteen years, she has been an invalid, due to Chronic Deforming Arthritis. She was faithfully cared for by her sister, Christina and her other relatives, but for the last year, has been hospitalized.
She passed away in the Halstead Hospital on Wednesday morning, December 5 ,1951. In the many years of teaching and her work with young people, she constantly had in mind the important task of preparing youth for good living. During the years of being an invalid, her body often being agonized with pain and suffering, one could constantly draw strength from her for the great task of living in these troubled times. In visiting her, one discovered a person that was not discouraged but one that was filled with the strong desire to carry on the work of Christ and to serve him better; filling a person with renewed hope and being the richer for having talked with her.
Funeral services were conducted December 8 at the Kaufman Funeral Chapel with her pastor, formerly of the Christian Church of Sedgwick in charge of the services. Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
