Elliott, Janice

Mildred Janice Elliott, 92, lifelong Halstead resident, died November 21, 2005 at Newton Medical Center. She was born August 31, 1913 at Greensburg, Kansas, daughter of Harrison and Mildred Parker Viersen. Both preceded her in death. She married Harold Keener, who was killed in action in World War II. She married John C. Elliott on November 9,1947 in Halstead. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1979. She was a secretary for the former Elliott Insurance Agency in Halstead. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Helianthos, both of Halstead; also a 50 year member and past Matron, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 5 of Newton. Survivors include a stepson, Charles Elliott, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; stepdaughter, Margaret Podlich, Tempe, Arizona; cousin, Mary Verna Frost, Newton; nine stepgrandchildren, thirteen step great grandchildren, eight step great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Ethel Magruder; stepson, John Elliott Jr; and a brother Ray Viersen. Services were held at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Torres officiating. Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
