Hege, Daniel C.
Halstead Independent
Mr. Daniel C. Hege was born in Sommerfeld, Illinois on August 12, 1860, son of Daniel and Barbara Lehman Hege. He united with the Mennonite church and was an earnest and zealous worker therein.
He moved to this city eight years ago where he has resided since with his mother and brother Adolph. For awhile after coming here he engaged in the stock business, after which he opened up a clothing store here under the firm name of D. C. Hege & Co. Later on a store was opened at Moundridge. He was a shrewd active and prosperous busiiness man, with whom it was a pleasure to deal. He was taken sick but a short ago, and it was thought he had greatly improved during the fore part of last week, but something seemed to form in his head, which pressed upon his brain and caused his death February 19th.
The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church, of which he had been a member since last winter. We believe that the largest crowd we have ever seen at a funeral was in attendance at this one. The remains were laid away in the Halstead Cemetery.
