Clarissa Rosetta Grant, daughter of Hiram and Hannah Grant was born September 9, 1852 in Ripley couonty, Indiana and departed this life November 8, 1938 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Hege of Halstead at the age of 86 years, 2 months. She was the last member of a family of ten.

At the age of 2 years she was taken by her parents to Iowa where she lived for a number of years. On October 8, 1879 she married Abraham Viersen at Knoxville, Iowa, with whom she spend 59 happy years. In 1883 she and her husband moved to Kansas where she spent the remainder of her life with the exception of 5 years spent in Nebraska and 5 years in Oregon.

Five children who survive were born to this union; Claude J. and Harry G. Vierson of Halstead, Mrs. Nellie Hege of Halstead; Mrs. Maude Cook of Winfield and Mrs.Hope Ratliff of Greensburg. These with 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of one of the best of mothers.

She united with the Christian church at 13 years of age and as a consecrated Christian ever after maintained a trusting faith in her Savior. She was a woman of quiet disposition, patience, modest and loveable. She was a most devoted wife and a sympathetic, understanding woman.

Wherever she lived she was esteemed by her neighbors and acquaintances as one who sougtth to make her home a place of joy and attraction for her husband and children. Her life was a blessing not only to her family but to all who associated with her.

For a number of years she had been in failing health, but was a patient sufferer until finally the last faint spark of life went out and there was peace.

Services were held at the Methodist Church and burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
