Viersen, Harrison
Halstead Independent
Harrison Grant Viersen, son of Rosetta and Abraham Viersen was born April 25, 1889 near Gordon, Nebraska and departed this life in Halstead, Kansas August 26, 1940 at the age of 52 years, 4 months and 1 day.
When yet a child he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and has lived a devoted Christian life throughout the years. He was united in marriage with Mildred Frost on April 7, 1912 and to this union were born two children, Mildred Janice and Harry Ray. The home was greatly saddened by the death on June 15, 1938 of the son and brother, Ray Viersen.
Although many years Mr. Vierson was unable to see, yet he was a beloved example to his family and friends of brave and cheerful fortitude and industry under what to many would have been an insurmountable haandicap. He will be sorrowfully missed not only by his family, but by those who learned to love his quick sure step and cheerful greeting.
In his early life, Mr. Viersen was a member of the Christian church but since thaat denomination had no organization in Halstead, he and his family united with the Methodist Church in January 1938. His regular attendance and his help have been greatly appreciated by this church.
He leaves to mourn his death his devoted wife, Mildred; his daughter, Janice; his father, Abraham Viersen; brother, Claude Viersen of Halstead; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Cook of Winfield; Mrs. Nellie Hege of Halstead and Mrs. Hope Ratzlaff of Greensburg.
Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
