Viersen, Abraham

Halstead Independent

Abraham Vierson was born January 19. 1856 at Des Moines, Iowa and departed this life March 16, 1946 aged 90 years, 1 month, 27 days. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nellie Hege with whom he had lived since July 1938.

He was united in marriage with Clarissa Rosetta Grant on October 8, 1879 and they were blessed with 59 years of life together, she preceding him in death in 1938. They spent their early life in Iowa, coming to Kansas in 1883 where they spent the remainder of their lifes with the exception of 5 years in Nebraska and 5 years in Oregon. To this union five children were born: Claude J. and Nellie Hege, both of Halstead; Maude Cook of Arkansas City; Hope Ratliff of Greensburg, Kansas and Harry G., who preceded him in death in 1940.

In early manhood he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Christian church of Greensburg, Kansas. He was a man of high ideals and was honest in every thiing he did and he will be missed by his four surviving children and grandchildren.

Memorial services were conducted at the Mathodist Church. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
