Viersen, Claude J.
Halstead Independent
Claude J. Viersen was born on October 2, 1880 near Redrock, Iowa and departed this life on October 27, 1954 at Halstead, Kansas, age 74 years, 25 days.
He was the son of Abraham and Rosetta Grant Viersen who preceded him in death. His daughter, Helen Virginia Russel and his brother, Harry Viersen, also passed away previously.
He moved with his parents into Kansas when he was eleven years old and has spent most of his life in and around Halstead. He was baptised into the Christian Church at an warly age and for the last 30 years has been a member of the Methodist Church in Halstead.
He was a long time member of the Odd Fellows Lodge here at Halstead, being initiated in 1913.
On January 31, 1900 he was married to Mattie Belle Steele, who survives him. In addition to his wife, he also leaves to mourn his death, one granddaughter, Jo Lynn, three sisters, Mrs. Maude Hunt of Attica, Kansas, Mrs. Nellie Hege of Halstead and Mrs. Hope Ratliff of Limon, Colorado.
Claude Viersen worked hard all his life. Some of his outstanding characteristics were his honesty, his faithfulness to his job, no matter what the task was, his willing and cooperative spirit when working for other people and above all - his tender and patient attitude no matter what life had in store for him.
Memorial services were held at the church with burial in the Halstead Cemetery.
