Wright, Richard Hugh
Halstead Independent
Dick Wright, 21 year old Halstead Marine Pfc. has given his life in the Viet Nam combat, according to word received Tuesday by his family from a representative of the Marine Corps. He became the first casuality of the Vietnamese conflict from Harvey County. According to the first information, Wright died Monday of chest wounds inflicted in a battle near Da Naang.
Members of the family were informed that his body and personal effects will be returned to Halstead. He was a member of the First Battallion, Third Marine Division.
Richard Hugh Wright was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Harland Wright. He enlisted in the Marines in April 1965 and went overseas last September. In addition to his parents he is survived by three brothers; Gary, Ted, and John, all of Halstead and his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Jess Owens of Haven.
He was born August 14, 1944 in Halstead. He attended the Halsteaad schools and graduated from Halstead high school in 1962. He was employed at Cessna Industrial Products division in Hutchinson for about two years before his enlistment.
A member of the family said they were informed that the body will arrive home in aaout a week.
Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.
