Thompson, Clarence
Halstead Independent
Clarence E. Thompson was born on October 16, 1863 in Iowa and died at the Bethel Home in Newton, Kansas on July 14, 1942 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 18 days. He came to Halstead, Kansas when 6 years of age; in 1872. His father had come earlier and had built a house hauling the lumber from Topeka. The home southwest of Halstead was a timber claim which his father had "proved up."
About 22 years ago they moved to the city of Halstad. In earlier life he united with the Christian Church. On Sept 1, 1918 he united with the First Presbyterian Church of Halstead. For several years he served as trustee of the church and in April 1925 he was elected an elder and has served on the "Session" from that date until the time of his death.
On September 29. 1885, he was united in marriage with Rebecca McIntyre. Mr. & Mrs. Thompson took Nellie McAlexander, Mrs. Thompson's niece, into their home as a foster daughter when she was five years of age, and made a home for her until her marriage to Mr. Archie E. Pyle of Sublette, Kansas. Mrs. Thompson passed away in 1937.
Mr. Thompson leaves to mourn his passing his niece, Mrs. Nellie Pyle, who was reared in his home.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church with burial in the Halstead Cemetery.
