Wright, Daniel
Halstead Independent
Daniel Wright, one of Halstead's oldest citizens died at his home Sunday afternoon, February 22, 1903, after an illness of about two weeks. The indirect cause of death was infirmities incident to his advanced age, while a stroke of paralisis three days before his death was too much for his worn-out system to overcome.
Mr. Wright was born near Ripley, in what is now West Virginia, August 25, 1818. At the age of eighteen years, he moved to Iroquois county, Illinois where he resided until 1879, when he located on a farm southwest of Halstead and came to Halstead to live a few years ago.
He was married at an early age but lost his companion after six children had been born to the union, five of whom are now living, only one of whom, A. C. Wright, of Gillman, Illinois, was able to be with him duriing his last hours.
A few years later, Mr Wright was married to Miss Henrietta White, who with four children from this union, Ernest, Victor, and Grant and Mrs. A. J. Smith, are left to mourn his loss.
The funeral services at the late home Tuesday afternoon were short and very simple, consisting of a few musical selections and a prayer by Rev. A. J. Bixler of the Methodist Church.
For a number of years Mr. Wright was engaged in the coal business but lately had been living a retired life. He was police judge of the city for several terms. and had been Justice of the Peace and in an official capacity he made a creditable record.
A curious coincident in connection with his death is, that it occurred just twenty-four years, to the hour, after he first landed in Halstead.
