Obituary

Lizie B. Hess was born June 13. 1886 at Burrton, Kansas and died at Jones Nursing Home at Newton, Kansas on July 1, 1961 after a long illness. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. C. B. Gueist. Her parents died when she was very young and she made her home with Mr. & Mrs. Chris Hansen.

She was a lifelong resident of the Burton community and was a graduate of the Burrton High School.

She was a faithful member of the Methodist Church almost all her life. For many years she was a teacher and pianist and organist in the Centennial Sunday School. When the church disbanded, she transferred her membership to the Burrton Church. She took an active part in the Women's Society of Christian Service as long as her health permitted.

She married George R. Hess on March 2, 1910. The children of this marriage are Orville, of Halstead and Irene Vollweider of Burrton. He survives along with their children and five grandchildren, Christine and Ted Vollweider; Joe, Dee Ann, and Randalin HJess; and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Johnson of St. Joseph. Missouri.

Funeral services were held at the church in Burrton. Interment was in the Halstead Cemetery.
