L. Lloyd McMullen died of a heart attack at his home in Newton Friday morning, July 14, 1944. He would have been 49 years old next month. He was a clerk of the district court. Mrs. McMullen, daughter of the late Al Smioth of Halstead, has been appointed clerk of the district court by the county commissioners to succeed her husband.

Mr. McMullen was born at Winsonville, Nebraska on August 18, 1865. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Wayne G. Austin post of the American Letion. He took an active interest in veterans' and community affairs and had been coordinator of Civilian Defense in Harvey county. He was quiet, kindly and accomodating; a highly respected citizen, a loving husband and father. His untimely death brings sorrow to many friends.

Besides his wife, the former Mabel A. Smith, he is survived by a daughter, Marilee; his mother, Mrs. J. A. McMullen of Norton; three sisters and one brother.
