Masters, William Roy

Halstead Independent

William Roy (Chappie) Masters, 83, former Halstead mayor died Saturday at his home.

Masters was politically active during the forties and was a strong advocate of street improvement. During his tenure as mayor the present Main Street lights were installed. They replaced the old cast iron post and glass globe type.

Masters was born March 6, 1890 in Halstead, son of Charles E. and Ella Masters and he lived in the Halstead area all his life. He joined the Halstead Bank board of directors in 1929 and was on the board for 44 years. He worked as a rancher and was one of the first automobile enthusiasts in the area.

He married Leeta Ingalls December 12, 1912 in Halstead. She died February 24, 1963. There are no immediate survivors.

Masters was a charter member of the Halstead Chamber of Commerce and the Livestock Breeders Association.

Funeral services were held at Petersen Funeral home in Newton with burial in the Halstead cermetery.
