Obituary

Victor E. Chesky Jr., 73, lifelong resident of Halstead died January 12, 2000 at Halstead Hospital. He was born in Halstead, son of Dr. & Mrs. V. E. Chesky Sr. He graduated from Halstead High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the medical corps. Folling his discharge in 1946 he attended the University of Kansas where he graduated in 1950

He married Dolores Custer of Wichita in 1947 and following his graduation at KU, the two moved to Halstead where they made their home, first in town and then on the farm west of town. This location permitted Mr. Chesky to fulfill his dream which he and his father shared of raising fine purebred "Arabian horses."

Both Mr. & Mrs. Chesky took active community leadership roles both in Halstead and at Wichita Collegiate School where the Cheskys' sons attended elementary and high school. Upon arriving in Halstead, Mr. Chesky's first employment was with the Halstead Bank. A few years later, he formed the Chesky Insurance Agency which he operated until 1990 when his health forced him to retire.

Survivors: his wife of more than 52 years, Dee; sons, Victor Chesky, III, Hunt, Texas; Bill Chesky, Gilbert, Arizona and Eric Chesky, St. Helena, California; sister, Jane Welch, Halstead; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Chesky; his parents; brother, Joe Chesky; twin granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth and brother-in-law, Dr.Jack W. Welch.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Halstead with burial in the Halstead Cemetery.
