Wendling, Daphne M.

Harvey County Independent

Daphne Mae Watts Wendling, 101, Halstead, died Saturday, July 14, 1998 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston where she had been a resident for several months. She was born July 23, 1897 at Laurie, Oklahoma, daughter of Michael and Ida Mae Johnson Watts. A lifetime resident of Halstead, she was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and a volunteer at Regency Health Care Center, Halstead.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Aaltar Society, HAO Club, Halstead Hospital Auxillary, Lakin Happy Homemakers Club, and the American Legion Auxillary, all of Halstead.

She married Leo Theodore Wendling at Halstead on August 8, 1916. He died September 1, 1981. Survivors: two sons, Leo Wendling, Jr., Manhattan; Eugene Wendling, Halstead; daughters, Ruby Margaret Harris, Topeka; and Vivian Bush, North Hollywood, California; half sister, Iris Huffman, Waterloo, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Watts Williams and a half-brother, James Watts.

Rosary and Funeral mass were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
