Stahlheber, Max Arthur

Harvey County Independent

Max Arthur Stahlheber, 70, San Dieto, California, a former rural Halstead resident died February 7, 2005. He was born April 3, 1934 at Newton, son of Adolph and Martha Puls Stahlheber.

He was retired from AT&SF Railroad in Kansas, Arizona and California after 37 years. He graduated from Halstead High School in 1952 and was the starting center for the Halstead High School Dragons basketball team that won the 1952 Kansas State Class B High School Basketball Championship. He was an avid golfer and after his retirement, he developed a love for tending his roses.

He married Arlene Wilmore, December 17, 1951 at Russell, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors are a son, Steve Stahlheber, Alpine, California; three daughters, Chris Blum and her husband Alan, Corona, California; Brenda Clayton, Irvine, California; and Janice Peterson and her husband, Mark Poway, California; sister, Mable "Tamer" Ketterer, Rancho Palaos Verdes, California; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Arnold and Earl Stahlheber; and two sisters, Florence Jantz and Lucille Betz.

A memorial service was held February 12, 2005 in Poway, California. Remains were buried in Halstead Cemetery in August of 2007.
