Popkins, Vernon

Halstead Independent

Vernon Popkins, 68, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Halstead community, died suddenly Saturday, June 11, 1966 at the Halstead Hospital. He was born March 7, 1898 in Halstead. He was the son of James and Ida Albert Popkins. He was married to the former Avis Miller in Halstead on November 21, 1944.

Popkins was a member of the First Methodist Church of Halstead and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his widow and two brothers, Robert of St. Petersburg, Florida and Charles of Girard.

Funeral services were conducted at the Kaufman Funeral chapel with the Rev. Michael Jarvis officiating. Burial was in Halstead cemetery, with graveside services by the Halstead Masonic Lodge.
