Chesky, Victor E

Halstead Independent

Victor Ernest Chesky was born on September 1, 1884 at Delavan, Illinois. In 1886 with his parents, Joseph and Amalia Arndt Chesky, he moved to Nickerson, Kansas. As a young boy he became a member of the Congregational Church. Victor received his S.B. degree from the University of Kansas in 1909. For two years thereafter, he taught school at Alma, Kansas.

Returing to college he received his M.D. degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1915. He served his internship at Kansas City General Hospital.

In August 1916, he came to Halstead as one of the first associates of Dr. A. E. Hertzler and the Hertzler Clinic, in which institution he served for the rest of his life.

In November 1916 he married Emma Sundbye, R.N., Kansas City General hospital. The children of this marriage are Jane, Joseph Anthon and Victor Ernest Jr.

During his 45 years at the Hertzler Clinic, he served as Chief of Staff and President of the Board of directors and numerous other positions.

Dr. Chesky's community service included many years on the school board and on the City Council. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Halstead Bank and the Halstead Farmers Cooperative Grain and Mercantile Company. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master of Halstead Lodge Number 46, A.F. and A.M.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24 at the First Methodist Church with Rev. H. G. Feldmann and Donald Schroeder officiating. R. W. Myers was soloist and Dean Burnett was organist. Halstead Lodge #46 AF&FM had charge of the graveside services. Kaurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
