Wilmore, Rachel Hoover

Halstead Independent

Mrs. Rachel H. Wilmore, 84, died Monday evening, April 23, 1961 at the home of her daughter, Ardis Wilmore in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born August 27, 1887 at Sedgwick, the daughter of John M. and Nancy Hoover, pioneers of Harvey County. She was married to Charles Franklin Wilmore in 1900. She lived in Harvey County until 1940 when she moved to Kansas City.

Mrs. Wilmore was a charter member of the Lakin Township Homemakers Unit and was also active on the county and state level. She was a member of the Halstead Women's Civic Club. She was instruments in organizing the Bethany Baptist Church orchestra and served for many years as church pianist. Mrs. Wilmore was a dedicated worker in the local and Harvey County Red Cross chapter during World War I. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Independence Blvd. Christian Church of Kansas City, Missouri.

Mrs. Wilmore is survived by two daughters, Ardis A. Wilmore of Kansas City, Misssouri; Helen M. Wilmore of Lexington, Kentucky; two sons, John H. of Halstead and Waldo W. of Topeka; nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Services wer held at the Bethany Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 26. Rev. David Wedel of Southwestern College, Winfield and Rev. Edwin Moreland of the Bethany Church conducted the service. Burial was in the Sedgwick, Kansas cemetery.
