Wear, Orville W.

Halstead Independent

Orville W. Wear passed away Thursday, August 1, 1974 unexpectedly, apparently of a heart attack, at his farm home southwest of Halstead where he was born March 5, 1902. He was the son of the late George and Pearl Wear, who also had lived on the farm.

His parents moved to Wichita in 1920, but their son remained to graduate from Halstead High School in 1921. He earned aa bachelor of arts degree from Friends University in 1925, and a master's degree in education from Wichita State University in 1935. He was a teacher and principal at the Sawyer school for six years, taught at Pamona one year, and was suerintendent of schools at Canton for eight years.

He resigned in 1940 and brought his family to halstead and later to the farm home where he was actively engaged in farming until a few years ago.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist church since returning in 1940, and held both local and district and conference offices of the church. He was a trustee of the former Methodist Children's Home, now Youthville, for the past 18 years.

Survivors are the widow; Minerva, of the home; daughter, Lois, wife of another former Halstead resident, Wilbur Brown, now of Manhattan; and a son, Maurice, whose wife is the former Marilee Sundbye, and five grandchildren.
