Obituary

John Arthur Schowalter, 55, died January 13, 1992 at the Halstad Hospital. He was born November 16, 1937 at Halstead, son of Arthur and Blanche Manuel Schowalter, and was a lifetime Halstead resident a former Harvey County appraiser.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Halstead Masonic Lodge #46, the Halstead Historical Society and was a former city councilman, all at Halstead. He was a member of the Wichita Scottish Rite and the Midian Shrine, both at Wichita, the Kanss York Rite, the Newton Commandery Drill Team, Newton, the DeMolay Legion of honor; he was chairman of the Public Schools Committee for the Grand Lodge of Kansas for the past 15 years and received the Kansas Grand Masters Special Award.

He married Joyce E. Smith on March 4, 1966. She survives. Other survivors: son, Scott Alan Schowalter, Wichita; two daughters, Andrea Lea Gatz, Katy, Texas and Heidi Nicole Edgmon, Halstead; one step-grandchild.

Services were held at the Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Roger O. Shanks presiding. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
