Henry John Penner, who died at his farm home northwest of Halstead on March 22, 1967 at the age of 72, was a lifelong resident of the Halstead community. He was born August 28, 1894 in Halstead. He attended grade school at the old District 47 school. After attending school, he became engaged in farming and this continued to be his life occupation for the rest of his life.

He joined the First Mennonite church in Halstead in 1910 and maintained an active interest in affairs of the church and community. For many years he served as a trustee of the church, and also as a member of the local township board and on the boards of school districts 47 annd 25.

He was married to Frances Bockhaus on June 15, 1923. Surviving members of the immediate family include his widow, one daughter; Mrs. Merlan (FLorence) Unruh; two sons, Wilbert ofo Halstead and Robert of Lincoln, Nebraska; three brothers, Will C. of Halstead; John J. of Newton and Erich E. of Mankato.

Funeral services were conducted at the church Saturday March 26 with Rev. Arnold Funk officiating. Burial took place in the Halstead cemetery with Kaufman Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
