DIGHTON — Dorothy M. Jostmeyer, 83, died Wednesday (April 07, 2010) at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton.
She was born on June 26, 1926, in Paterson, N.J., to William W. and Millie (Doerpfeld) Maloney Sr.She married Arthur Albert Jostmeyer Sr. on April 11, 1945, in Jacksonville, Fla. He died on Jan. 6, 1982.Born in Paterson, Dorothy's family later moved to Trenton, N.J., where she graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1944.Dorothy worked as a civilian at the Air Force base in Jacksonville. It was there she met her future husband, who was in the Air Force. After their marriage, they moved to Newton, where they raised their family.For more than 50 years, Dorothy worked for Montgomery Ward, first in Newton and later at Town West in Wichita. She retired in 1995, but continued to work part-time until moving to Dighton in 2000.She also found time to work for SCORE as an administrator for the development of small businesses.
Dorothy was an avid collector. She collected Montgomery Ward memorabilia, Barbies and Wizard of Oz collectibles.She loved her family and will be greatly missed.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, William W. Maloney Jr., one great-grandson, Joseph Speer; and a son-in-law, Terry Thomas.Survivors include one son, Arthur Jostmeyer Jr. of Russellville, Ark.; one daughter, Joyce Thomas of Dighton; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Dighton, with Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.Memorials may be made to the Dorothy M.
