Lorene G. Kater, 84, former Farrell's Grocery Store employee and Alco and K-Mart office clerk, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003. Visitation 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home; service 10 a.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church; burial at Restlawn Gardens of Memory.
Mrs. Kater was born May 15, 1918 in Finney County to Carl H. Porter and Agnes M. Davidson Porter. She married Alfred A. Kater on Jan. 14, 1946 in Newton. He survives.
She was a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, family life, reading and traveling. She also was a Sunday School teacher, Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
Survivors: husband, Alfred; daughters and sons-in-law, Leuna and Ken Murray of Newton, Daina and David Zehr of Derby; brothers, Eldon Porter, Wayne Porter both of Newton, Marvin Porter of Wichita; sisters, Dorothy Williams, Hazel Abrahams, Evelyn Hackney, Joy Payne all of Newton, Jean Pierson of Licking, Mo., Esther Isreal of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Michael Zehr, Nicholas Zehr both of Derby, Shelby and Kevin Barton of Newton.
