Kater, Alfred

Alfred A. Kater, 92, died Saturday (July 22, 2006) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.
He was born Feb. 26, 1914, to John and Augusta (Preuss) Kater in Newton. They preceded him in death. He married Lorene Porter on Jan. 14, 1946, in Newton. She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 2003.

He worked at Robin Hood Mill and was a retired from USD 373 in 1980.

He was a disabled veteran who served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in the 24th Medical Battalion.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was an avid bowler for 44 years. He loved to tell jokes, laugh and visit with family and friends. His smile will be missed.

Survivors (Private)

He also was preceded in death by: brothers, John Kater and Albert Kater; and sisters, Mary Butterweck and Joanna Yandell.

Service was held yesterday at First Baptist Church. Pastor Terry Tariela officiated.

Memorials are with First Baptist Church and Asbury Park, both in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
