Obituary

Alva M. Steele, 86, died Monday, July 29, 1991 at Presbyterian Manor, Newton. He was born August 5, 1904 at Halstead, the son of Ara H. and Mattie May Boyer, Steele. He married Bertha May Hosie May 18, 1941 at Elmo, Kansas. She died March 8, 1985.

He was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of the Halstead area until he moved to Presbyterian Manor in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, both of Halstead.

Survivors: three daughters, Carole Becker, Loveland, Colorado; Marlene Richter, Bloomington, Illinois and Donita Cohorst, Marysville, Kansas; two brothers, Eldo Steele, Halstead and Dr. B. A. Steele, Hutchinson; sister, Lorene McBride, Hays; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. A son, Duane Steele, died August 23, 1990.

Services were held at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger O. Shanks officiating. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery, with Masonic committal rites.
