Hinkson, Melissa H.

Halstead Independent

Mrs. Cyrus Hinksosn, one of the pioneer settlers of Harvey County who lived near Halstead for fifty years. passed away at the family home Monday morning. Death was attributed to old age.

Melissa Gittings was born at Zanesville, Ohio, September 26, 1849 at Zanesville, Ohio and moved with her parents to LaHarpe, Illinois in infancy. In October 1895 she moved with her parents to Chilhowee, Missouri, where she resided until her marriage to Cyrus Hinkson on November 29, 1876.

To them were born five children; the oldest Zaida Helen, died at the age of four years. Living children are Arthur Ason of near Valley Center, Kansas; Josephine of Halstead; Guy of near Halstead and Carl of Boise, Idaho.

Three sisters, Mrs. Zaida G. Lamont, Palo Alto, California; Mrs. J. M. Oglesby of Bartow, Florida; Mrs. George E. Harris of St. Joseph,Missouri; and one brother, R. Gittings of Portland, Oregon are left to mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church. Internment was made in the new portion of the City Cemetery.
