Cannon, Ben J.

The Newton Kansan

Ben J. Cannon, 70, 426 W. 10th, Newton, retired porter for the Santa Fe Railroad, died Sunday at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, where he had been a patient since December 23.

He was born July 4, 1904 at Norwood, Louisiana, son of Napoleon and Elmira Johnson Cannon. He married Jane Peters, August 24, 1935 at Castor, Louisiana. They had resided in Newton since 1942.

Mr. Cannon was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #69, Wichita Consistory, Almond Chapter #27, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors: widow of the home; one step-son, Jack Hill, Los Angeles, California; two brothers, Samuel and Ive Cannon, Zachary, Louisiana; four sisters, Mrs. Julia Scott; Zachary, Louisiana and Mrs. Elmira king, Mrs. Louisa Johnson and Mrs. Louise Holmes, all of New Orleans. Louisiana; two grandchildren.

Services will be held in Draper-Cannon Chapel with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
