Obituary

Mrs. LaVerene McAlister, 74, 407 E. 11th, died Sunday, August 3, 1975, at Bethel Deaconess Hospital where she had been a patient since June 16. She was born October 9, 1900 in Manhattan, the daughter of Richard and Rose Mitchell. She married Earl S. McAlister on May 1, 1923 at Manhattan. The couple moved to Newton from Belvidere, South Dakota in 1957. Mr. McAlister died April 30, 1963. She had been employed as a dining room attendant at Friendly Acres.

Mrs. McAlister was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society; a member and past treasurer of the Harvey County Repblicans and a member of Bethel Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Richard, Denver, Colorado; one foster son, Paul Howard, Gilette, Wyoming; and one brother, Blyd Mitchell, Denver, Colorado; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at the church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
