John N. Scott, 57, 1101 East Broadway, owner and operator of Scott Prooduce, died this morning, July 3, 1975, at Axtell Christian Hospital after an extended illness. Cause of death was cancer.
He was born May 24, 1918 at Neosho Falls, Kansas, the son of States Reynolds and Josephine Shewell Scott. He married Virginia E. Royston September 21, 1940 at Bentonville, Arkansas. They moved to Newton 30 years ago and Mr. Scott had operated the produce business for 29 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, he was a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, Masonic Blue Lodge at Neosho Falls; Newton Knights Templar and Royal Arch Masons, and Scottish Rite Consistory, Wichita. He also had coached and managed little league baseball teams for both the VFW and American Letion.
Survivors: Widow of the home; one son, John Martin, Emporia; two daughters, Mrs. James (Barbara) Girard, Lawrence and Mrs. William (Joella) Lock, Newton; one sister, Mrs. Jean Mann, Iola and four grandchidren.
Services will be held at the church Saturday. Masonic graveside services with a military color guard will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
