Halstead Independent
Last rites for Banker and civic leader whose activities made him the friend and advisor of countless individuals in the community, died last Friday where he had been under treatment for an illness of several months duration.
He was born Juine 26, 1888 near Halstead, he attended grade school in Garden township and graduated from Halstead High school. He was a member of two state championship basketball teams. Following graduation and after attending Oberlin college he joined the staff of the Halstead Bank on August 1, 1911.
He was married to the former Eva Baxendale and following her death in 1918, entered the army and served overseas during World War I. He was an active member of the Halstead Lions club and served on numerous committees for the American Legion. He was a charter member of the old Halstead Commercial Club and instrumental in organizing the present Chamber of Commerce. He also had memberships in Masonic bodies.
Surviving members: two sisters, Marie of the home and Mrs. Edna Moser of Glendale, California; three brothers, Walter of the home, Carl of Halstead and Edward of Reedley, California.
Services were conducted Monday at the First United Prebyterian Church with burial in the Halstead Cemetery. Flag service was conducted by members of the Ruth-Wilson legion post.
