Obituary

Esther Louise Smith, 62, died December 12, 1991 at the Halstead Hospital. She was born July 28, 1930 at Newton, the daughter of Clarence A. and Gladys Faye Hackney Schirer. A Halstead resident for 17 years, she was an assistant cashier and officer at the Halstead Bank. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Pricilla Circle and the Y's all at Halstead.

She married Herbert G. Smith at Newton on June 8, 1948. Survivors include her husband, Herbert, at home; her mother, Gladys Schirer, Newton; son, Edward A. Smith, Halstead; two daughters, Barbara R. Riley, Halstead and Sharon L. Klassen, Ridgecrest, California; four brothers, Marshall Schirer, Thailand; Keith Schirer, Newton; Ivan Schirer, Halstead and Robert Schirer, Lyons; sister, Eleanor Schirer, Newton; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the church. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery. Memorials have been established with the church of Cental Home Care and Hospice.
