Obituary

Dwight Keller McFarland, 86, Derby, brother of Ada Lehmann, Halstead, died Sunday, March 3, 2002 at Mt. Hope Nursing Center, Mr. Hope, Kansas. He was born October 26, 1915 at Newton, the son of Albert and Eella White McFarland. He grew up and attended school in Harvey County and graduated from Newton High School.

On August 28, 1940,, he married Jean Simonson at Halsteaad. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1980. He married Mabel Burkey September 17, 1983. She preceded him in death May 15, 2001 at Beloit.

He was a retired contract machinist, tool/die maker and truck driver. He was a 60 year Mason and longtime Shrine member. In the early 1940s he was mayor of Derby, Kansas.

Other survivors: two daughters, Sharon Burke, Gainsville, Georgia and Sharlot Van Deest, Haysville; one son, Ken McFarland, Georgetown, Texas; three stepsons, Don Burkey, Beloit; Jim Burkey, Santa Barbara California and Bob Burkey, Mountain View, Hawaii; one brother, Andrew McFarland, San Leandro, California; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and six step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel McFarland, a brother, Jay McFarland and four sisters, Mabel Boller, Fayanna Zimmerman, Donna White and Lillian Lukensmeyer.

Services will be held Saturday March 90 at Smith Mortuary, Derby with internment at noon in the Halstead Cemetery, Halstead, Kansas.
