Pike, Richard Orville

Harvey County Independent

Richard Orville Pike, 82, Halsted, died Tudsday, August 13, 2002 at Newton Medical Center, Newton. He was born July 2, 1920 at Wichita,, the son of Herbert M. and Vera M. Collier Pike.

He was the former owner and operator of Victory Locker, Halstead and sales representative for Winchester Meats, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, former city couoncilman, fire chief and school board member, all of Halstead.

He married Vera Mae Hansen at Halstead on September 8, 1943. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Janet Mahan, Lake Havasu, Arizona; Jean Bolin, Admire; Judy Hawk, Hutchinson and Barbara Becker, Aurora, Colorado; brother, Kenneth Pike, Eureka; two sisters, Joyce Dosien, rural Sedgwick and Eleanor Achilles, Yuma, Arizona; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Dick.

Services will be held Friday, August 16 at the Church in Halstead with Rev. James Bush presiding. Burial will be in the Halstead Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Halstead EMS or First United Methodist Church.
