Eva June Marak, 91, a Halstead native, died June 21, 2303 at Newton Presbyterian Manor, where she had moved to from her home in Halstead. She was born May 20. 1912 in Halstead, the daughter of George A. and Gertie Johnson Howell. She was raised in the Halstead area and attended a rural grade school prior to graduating from Halstead High School in 1931. She then received her nurse's training from Dr. Hertzler at the School of Nursing at Halstead Hospital, graduating in 1934. She was a registered nurse for many years, working at the Halstead Hospital and also for nursing homes and hospitals in Newton, Halstead and Sedgwick.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society in Halstead and the Halstead Historical Society.
She married Lawrence B. Marak, Sr., on November 28, 1936 in Newton. He died May 27, 1976. Other survivors: a son, and his wife, Larry and Joyce Marak of Lees Summit, Missouri; two daughters, Elizabeth Jo Marak-Chance and her husband Tom of Lincoln, Nebraska and Bernice Wedman of Ponca City, Oklahoma; brother, Alvin Howell, Arlington, Massachusetts; sister, Ruby Allbaugh, Newton; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild and 3 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; four sisters, Neva Clark, Idabelle Banta; Mary Grace Canning and Edna Howell and two brothers, John Howell and Henry Howell.
The service will be Saturday morning at the church.
