England, Shirley M.

The Newton Kansan

Shirley M. England, 86, of Newton, died Thursday February 16, 2006 at Newton Medical Center. She was born Octobewr 31, 1919 in Burrton to Jesse E. and Edna L. Arnold England. She attended Colorado Women's College in Denveer, and Bethel College. She was vice president of Kansas State Bank, retiring after 41 years.

She was a career women in Newton. She was a member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Sorooptimist International Club, past president of the Order of Eastern Star No 5 for 1965-66 and 1975-76, a life member of the Newton Chamber of Commercee, the 1977 Newton Kansan Woman of the Year Business and Professional winner. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star 407 of Halstad, the New Crredit Women and the Republican Party.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Keith England and sister, Donna Pierce.

Her hobbies included traveling, sports, music, reading, knitting and sewing.

She is survived by sister-in-law Zada England of Newton; brother Harold England of Altmont; five nieces; four nephews.

Visitation will be Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Tuesday in Halstead Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Fischer officiating.
