William John Chambers, 77, Wichita, former Newton area resident, died May 13, 1990 at HCA, Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 26, 1913 at Newton, son of Charles DeHaven and Mary Manhold Chambers. He married Hazel Pauline Fowler March 20, 1939. She died March 8, 1978. He then married Verna M. Barker Cochenour June 24, 1979 in Wichita. He was a retired American Flour Mills packer in Newton. He was a member of the Kechi United Methodist Church.
Survivors: wife of the home; two daughters, Bonnie Corfman and Betty Smith, both of Newton; stepsons, Mervin Boyd, Norman, Oklahaoma; Jim Boyd and Verle Boyd, both of Wichita; a stepdaughter, Lois Huddlestun, Wichita; brothers, Charles, Newton; Joe, Whitewater; Russell, Gardner, Kansas; L. Jay, Wichita and Ronnie, Pittsburg, California; sisters, Ruby Johnson, San Leandro, California; Mildred Walton, Yates Center, Kansas; Maxine Crane, Oakland, California; and Luella Hunsaker, Emporia; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, William Lee Chambers February 16, 1983.
Services were held May 16 at Quiring Old Mission Mortuary, Wichita with the Rev. Robert D. Cousins. Grveside service was at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
