Mildred J. Cox, 95, resident of Kidron-Bethel Retirement Home, Newton, died September 15, 1990 at the Home.
Mrs. Cox was born November 19, 1894 at Sedgwick, Kansas, the daughter of Dana D. and Lella Mayo Johnson. She graduated from Fairmont College, Wichita, Kansas in 1916, with a degree in home economics. She was a homemaker, a home economics teacher and a business woman. She taught school at Coats, Kansas and at Sedgwick. She operated the Johonson Drug Store in Sedgwick following the death of her father. Mrs. Cox resided at rural Sedgwick before moving to the home several months ago.
she married DeWyte Cox, August 27, 1921 at Colorado Springs, Coloradl. He died January 8, 1974.
She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, Sedgwick; a 50 year member and past Matron of the order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 5 and PEO Chapter AG, both of Newton; The American Legion Auxillary and the Athena GFWC, Sedgwick; the Thursday Afternoon Music Club, Wichita, Kansas; past board member of Rainbow Girls and past member of the advisory board for Girl Scouts.
Survivors: son, Dana D. Cox, rural Sedgwick; daughter, Madeline Mosiman, Sedgwick; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at the church with the Rev. Lillie DaMeta. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
