Obituary

Mildred E. Dyck Hess, 76, Halstead, died September 18, 1990 at the Halstead Hospital. She was born August 14, 1914 at Halstead, daughter of Henry F. and Lydia Kaiser Dyck. she married Orville H. Hess June 14, 1942 in Vancouver, Washington. He died April 8, 1986. She was a lifetime resident of the Halstead area.

She was a retired school teacher, having taught a total of 28 years. She first taught high school home economics, history and chemistry at Geneseo, Kansas, Latham, Kansas and Moundridge, Kansas. She then taught kindergarten through fourth grade at rural schools, Harmony and Gem. Her last years of teaching were at the Halstead Elementary School where she taught kindergarten and second grade. She retired in May of 1979.,

She was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Halstead, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of Chapter AK PEO, Helianthos Club and a board member of the Halstead Cemetery Association.

Survivors: two daughters, DeeAnn Lintz, Galesburg, Michigan and Randi Schaff, Olumpia, Washington; one sister, Helen Ewert, Abilene, Kansas; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Hess on May 30, 1946 and Joe Hess on December 7, 1980.

Graveside services were held September 21 at Halstead Cemetery with the Rev. John Waltner. Memorials to the Halstead Ambulance Department defibrillator fund, or the American Diaabetes Association.
