Obituary

Betty Jane Hughes, 69, Halstead, died January 2, 1990 at her home. She was born October 13, 1920 at Newton, daughter of John B. Scott Sr. and Bessie B. Rains Scott. She had lived in Halstead for 50 years. She was a former school teacher and a retired restaurant owner and operator.

She married Herman Hughes June 17, 1951 at Fairbury, Nebraska. He died March 13, 1989. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Halstead.

Survivors: son, Terry, Wichita; daughter, Rita Hastings, Olathe; two brothers, Billy N. Scott, Emporia and Jack L. Scott, Wadena, Minnesota; two sisters, Louise Coleman, Garden Grove, California and Marie Ward, Halstead and five grandchildren.

Services were Friday morning January 5 at the church with the Rev. Roger O. Shanks. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
