Janzen, LeRoy L.

Halstead Indepenndent

Leroy L. Janzen, 92, rural Halstead died February 23, 1990 at Halstead Hospital. He was born June 24, 1897 in Lorraine, Kansas, the son of Henry and Carrie Dees Janzen. He married Alva Steinberg November 17, 1921. She died December 23, 1937. He married Elsie A. Nachtigal August 31, 1944 at Hesston. He was a retired farmer and had been a resident of the rural Halstead community for 23 years moving to the Halstead area from the rural Sedgwick area. He also served as the school crossing guard for the Halstead Grade School for several years, following his retirement from farming. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Halstead.

Survivors: wife of the home; four sons; Marlin, Alburquerque New Mexico; Glen, Newton; Larry, Joshua, Texas and Norman, Halstead; three daughters, Pauline Miller, Newton; Judith Regehr, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Deloris Hiebert, ElDorado; one brother, Wilbert, Ellsworth; three sisters, Edna Schroeder, Wichita; Nellie Nelson, Burlington, Iowa; and Thelma Kinnear, Hardeville, South Carolina; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne, in 1943.

Services were held February 26 at the church with the Rev John H. Waltner. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
